U's kinda slow....

I did intend to write U today. I really did. Then I realized I forgot the power cord to one machine at work, I seem to have broken the other one (can't get it to boot) and I was out most of the day anyway. So argh, grr, snarl. I hadn't quite decided what to do with U anyway. It did occur to me that I haven't written any smut for the Alphabet Sylph Soup, so when it does come out, there's gonna be sex.

Anyone know how to get a mac powerbook that just thinks about turning on at the grey screen where the apple appears to get its finger out and actually boot? I did something dumb. It looked like it got stuck installing an update so I did a hard reboot.  I shouldn't be allowed to touch machinery...

Here, have a painting. I'm quite proud of this one, and yes, this does mean I have a working computer, but I prefer to type on my laptop, rather than my big machine. I get to lounge in my comfy chair and get creative that way.

I am pondering on how you readers want more sylph stuff, or anything I write. If I tried self publishing a novella (not sylph) for about .99 cents as an experiment, would people read it? It would be an ebook of some sort.

  1. Can't help with the computer, but I'd definitely pay .99 to read something new from you. Run that experiment! If it's successful, would you consider writing a novella about our baby battle sylph? Did you ever think we would fall so hard for the little guy? :-)

    1. I suppose I could, if a plot occurs to me. Hrm....

No, I didn't realize people would like him so much. I created him in one of my silly moments. I'm pleased he's so popular, however. He is fun to write. I can mock everything with him. :p

  2. Honestly, $0.99 is enough for me to try things that have terrible ratings and I KNOW I like your stuff, so... consider it a yes?

  4. Novella would be wonderful, I think it's a great idea and would definitely pay for it! Love Jan's idea of it being about the Baby Battler if possible - you definitely have us all hooked on the adorable little rascal. Also forgive me if this has already been asked (your sites are the first time I have ever posted anything so I am still getting the hang of all this), but your art is so cool - have you ever considered painting any of your Sylph characters? I would adore to see your vision of them. Sorry for the long post! (dang newbie!)

    1. I might do the baby in a novella. I do want to get some of my other work out there, however. Much as I love the sylphs, I don't want to only be known for them. Perhaps I'll do both.

Thanks for the comments on the art. I appreciate it. :)

I hadn't really thought of painting one of the sylphs. I'm still very much paint what I see and I still make a lot of mistakes. I don't have the faintest idea how to paint a sylph cloud and have it come out like it is in my head. Maybe I could try painting one of them in human form and in uniform. That means finding all the elements of their uniform and cut/pasting them together, then using that as a reference for the painting. Gah. That might be tough. I'm certainly not a clothing designer. Might be interesting though.

    2. I couldn't agree more, I think it would be very interesting! Your creative flow is amazing and I am always fascinated with what it will come up with next! :)

    3. You could reduce some of your costs by creating your own fron/back cover book design - some of my friends have done that and *whispering* they are not as artistic as yourself*end whispering*.

Imaginative artist and great writer - yo're giving me a complex!! ROFLMAO!!

  7. X for smex??

I would buy your books, in any format and at any cost, because you're a consistently excellent writer who is not afraid to push your - or our own - boundaries or expectations.

I would definitely love the Alphabet snippets to be released and I think, as an introduction to your new worlds, publishing them as an ebook release would be a great idea; Some writers who, like yourself, do not wish to be typecast as only writing one series/characters, seem to try the ebook route as a 'whaddya think?'for existing and potential fans.

BTW I would love any stories / novellae featuring Baby B, Black and his master, the Hive World Sylph couple etc. I am also excited about your brand-new series...very tempting...

  8. Would definitely buy anything you publish, assuming it is the same quality as the sylph novels, which it would be. My only caution would be that while no writer wants to be categorized, don't forget the sylph world entirely. Some readers, like me, fall in love with an author's series and style. When that author changes to something totally new, it is scary for those readers, like me, because sometimes that change is amazing and sometimes it is horrible.

I really hope to see some of the characters you've used in the alphabet snippets to be used in longer stories. I adore Baby B, and am intrigued by Black and his master, Thrall, and the other snippets. I have enjoyed the way you have used these snippets to explore deeper themes within the sylph world, while simultaneously adding in sweet, funny moments. I also hope that you consider going back and adding in the letters you've missed. :)

  9. I am a late comer to your postings (stories) and I have truely enjoyed them. Instead of $ 0.99 per story how about have a membership fee (more than $.99) that lets you join for a specified time and then you can simply post the stories each month like you do with your website and if in the future wish to publish a entire ebook then you can sell it first to the 'members' for an additional fee. Just a thought. Once again Thanks for the great short stories. JIN
